My Winnings From Fabric.com

I finally received my $25 gift certificate from Fabric.com that I won with my feature in Sew News! Yea!! It didn't take long to spend it either...lol I knew I wanted to buy yarn since I am crocheting scarves for the nursing home as part of the ministry with my church. I was only able to get 5 skeins for just under the $25 since shipping and handling took up almost $7!

I ordered 2 skeins of  purple mist (which ended up being on backorder)
1 skein of barley
1 skein of Autumn Print
1 skein of Rose Mist

I am pretty pleased with my order and it will be nice to have 5 "free" scarves to add to the mix.
All are Lion Brand.

I was featured in Sew News!

So ok - it was actually a little sewing blooper feature in the Last Laugh section, but I won a $25 gift certificate to Fabric.com.
I received my letter in the mail today along with the gift certificate. Now how cool is that?

It was the October /November 2012 issue. Pretty exciting!!

The story is about when I made my first dress and wore it to work for the first time. It started coming apart at the seams under my arms and then I realized I had only baste stitched it...lol

My Valentines' Gift

This is what I am making for my Valentine. I saw the idea on Pinterest - and I had already bought 6 little canvas squares at Target for $1 each a couple weeks ago, knowing I would find a use for them eventually. I bought the pretty 3D scrapbooking stickers at a local dollar store.

So - I painted the canvas with paint I already had - since, as you can see, they are pre-printed for little kids to paint - so I needed to cover up the picture. I just laid the photo on and let it dry with the paint for a bit and then covered the whole thing with Mod Podge. I added the 3D stickers once it was dry.
I will have to touch up the paint some - I can see some of the pre-printed picture is showing through - or I may just add a little gold glitter! yea, that is an idea!

This will go in his Valentine bag along with his card, the new iPad cover I am getting him and this framed I ♥ U I also found on Pinterest.

Peppermint Candy Dish (Edible)

How cute is this? It wasn't my idea - one of the students brought these in for a little Christmas gathering at school. I love it! Oh the possibilities!

One of my friends thought of using Jelly Ranchers at Easter time - I like the idea of a big cross with the pretty colors making it look mosaic or stained glass!

Anyway - I will be trying this out - with different colors of candy - different shapes - to be sure! Santa could have his cookies served on this little peppermint dish and then eat the dish, too!

You just place parchment paper down on your cookie sheet - arrange peppermints into the design and the bake at 350 degrees until they start to melt and remove - about 10 minutes. You have to watch closely! Store in a sealed bag or container.

*After posting this I checked Pinterest - and of course, they are ALL over pinterest!

Rosette Felt Grapevine Wreath

My friend, Brendel, and I worked on this wreath this evening. Between the 2 of us, we knocked it out in less than 4 hours. Her daughter, Leslie, found it on Pinterest and wanted one to use in her photography shoots. I was happy to help and I think it turned out really nice!

Here are a couple of pictures of us hard at work. I don't know how Brendel sat on that hard tile floor so long!

Brad and I with the finished product. I can't wait to see some of the photos that Leslie comes up with using the wreath!

Items needed:
felt - she bought 10 yards which was way more than we needed. You could get by easily with half of that.
scissors
glue/glue sticks
tacky glue

The actual pattern was 3 x 3 inch squares - but we made ours 5 x 5 and then trimmed into circles. You can get the true directions here.

Fall Hostess Gift - Happy Thanksgiving Gift

Hobby Lobby already has their Fall items on sale - 80% off for some items. I bought 4 bottles of the Harvest Home Spray (which was all that was left) and thought they would make a nice little hostess gift for Thanksgiving.
I printed off a little poem on cardstock and added a scarecrow graphic - added some autumn print ribbon - and it is ready to go!

"May the good things of life
be yours in abundance,
not only at Thanksgiving
 but throughout the coming year."

I am giving one to my mother in law, one to my sister in law and one to the hostess - my niece.
