Simple Simple Vase for the Office

I decided I am going to try to keep fresh flowers on my desk at work as often as I can this school year - so here is the pretty little vase I made last night. You know how I love Starbucks Frappuchino bottle!
I just spray painted a tall one white - added a black and white ribbon that matches the decor in my office - (I have this ribbon around my bulletin board) added a string of stick on beads and a gold letter G.
I will cut some of my roses before I leave for work this morning but for now I added a couple of stalks of bamboo to show it off.

These are the roses I have blooming right now in my flower beds. I cut these last week and they lasted all week.

Revamped Vase

While gathering things for my yardsale - I ran across several vases that had accumulated under the kitchen sink. A couple were unusual enough that I thought would sell "as is" but I found this one that was your typical plain jane style - just clear glass. I thought to myself - no one is going to buy this - and just started to stuff it back in its place - then thought why not spiff it up?

So...I spray painted it aqua and white  and then just took a few colors of the bottled fabric paint and made some squigglies - (that is a technical term, you know) and tied some matching tulle around the neck. Now I kind of like it. I am still going to put it in my yardsale - if it sells - great - if not - I have a new and improved vase that will match the decor in my sewing/craft room.

Sports Candy Bottle for the Boys (or Girls)

Seems like every craft I make is pretty feminine. I thought I would do something for the boys or tomboy girls. I know my oldest grandangel would go for it. She has a little tomboyism going on.

Items needed:
Starbucks Frappuchino Bottles
Sport related Candy - I found the foil wrapped chocolates with baseball, football, soccer and basketball wrapping foil.
Sport related Stickers - I use scrapbooking stickers
Ribbon or fabric - I had football themed fabric. I think I would prefer ribbon with sports theme - but was fresh out :-(
Spray paint for lid

Make sure your bottle is clean and dry. Spray paint the lid to the bottle. Slap on some cute stickers and tie a bow or ribbon - add candy...and there you have it.

I just love these bottles. I have used them for so many different things. They are just the perfect size for so many things and so easy to decorate. I have a few more ideas I will be sharing soon - so stay tuned.

Goodbye Folding Doors - Hello Deco Curtain

I cannot stand those crazy folding wooden doors that come off the tracks whenever they get good and ready. Drives me nuts! That is just what kind of doors our spare bedroom had. I took care of that easy enough and totally happy with the way it looks now.
I bought a nice heavy cloth shower curtain that matched the room decor from Kohls. I also bought a plain shower curtain rod and wooden curtain rings. I painted the rod and the rings bright orange with spray paint. For the valance - I just put up a regular curtain rod, also spray painted orange and then added complimentary colors for the valance.
I think it looks great and no more fighting those folding wooden doors!

Personalized Coasters from tiles

Here is a really inexpensive, but fun gift to give - so easy - can't wait to make more!

All you need:
tiles (Home Depot or Lowes)
scrapbook paper
photo of choice
mod podge
Brush a layer of mod podge onto the smooth side of the tile - top with scrapbook paper to fit. Let dry. Brush a layer of mod podge on top of the scrapbook paper - place your photo onto the tile and let dry. Brush another layer on top of the photo - let dry - add a couple of coats making sure it is all nice and smooth.

How cute would they be with a set of  4 photo tile coasters tied together with a ribbon - a  nice personal gift anyone would love. Here are 2 that I made. I plan to make some "themed" ones - like a set for summer - with swimming pics of the grands - a set for winter - using Christmas pics -
I am thinking trivets would be a nice idea as well - using the larger size tiles.

Mod Podge A Collage Alpha Letters

I saw this on Pinterest and had to do a set for myself. The hardest part was deciding which photos to use. I only wanted pictures of my husband and I. We don't have a whole lot of those it seems, but I made do. Of course these are my initials and I have them hanging in my sewing/craft room.
I used the largest wooden letters I could find at Hobby Lobby - brushed a thin layer of modpodge on top, placed my photos where I wanted them and modpodged over them a couple of times, allowing them to dry in between coats. I scattered colorful jewels to fill in gaps.

One thing I learned - we definitely need to take more pictures together!
